As an entrepreneur, you constantly have to be aware of the threat of burnout. The workload and stress of running your own business can quickly lead to exhaustion, disinterest, poor performance, irritability, and more. You can avoid burnout, though, by avoiding a few key behaviors that can often lead to it.
One of the most common causes of burnout is a lack of passion or commitment to your work. As an entrepreneur this hopefully wouldn’t apply to you, but if you find your passion for your business waning it might be time to take a step back and figure out why. If, however, you love your work and wake up every morning ready to dive right in, you’re far less likely to burn out.
Perfectionism is another common cause of burnout. If you constantly need everything to be just right, and if you dread failure and constantly seek approval and validation, you’re going to burn out because nothing will ever be as perfect as you want it to be. Perfectionism, instead, tends to cause highly negative feelings when goals aren’t attained.
Finally, be sure that you’re spending time with friends and family in addition to your work. If you seclude yourself, you’ll end up feeling lonely and withdrawn, and that can lead to burnout. Learn about some other ways to avoid the dreaded burnout below!
